What Is Montessori Education?

Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952), an Italian physician and educator developed an educational approach based upon her observations of children as absorbent learners. The Montessori approach provides children with a holistic education; one that respects each child as a unique individual and embraces their whole development.

Within our Montessori classroom you will see engaged children of different ages who are moving about freely. The calm but bustling atmosphere is both exciting and intriguing. Like all Montessori classrooms children at Listening Point Montessori are encouraged to choose their own work and to follow their passion and interests. Children have freedom within limits and are shown dignity and respect to make the right choices. As Dr. Montessori once stated, “the child seeks independence by means of work; an independence of body and mind.”

At Listening Point Montessori, the Montessori approach guides programming experiences both indoors and out. Our classroom has been thoughtfully prepared to guide children in their social, emotional, physical and cognitive development. Works within the Listening Point Montessori classroom are not only beautiful but are also constructive, interesting and provide children with a foundation from which to grow. All materials are arranged sequentially and gradually lead children to a greater understanding of abstract concepts an ideas. Children who attend Listening Point Montessori will become confident, enthusiastic and joyful lifelong learners who appreciate the interconnectedness of life on earth.
